MUSICAL ACTION: Group Donaire

Donaire Cultural Association

It was created in the city of A Coruña in 2000, with the aim of recovering, promoting and disseminating an important part of our traditional culture such as Galician folklore.

It has a school where singing and dancing classes are taught, as well as instruments that were traditionally used in its accompaniment, such as the bagpipe, tambourine, tambret, drums, hand drum and other minor percussion instruments. It also has a group composed of young people who, after years in school, show in the performances the grace, richness and variety of our popular music and dance, preserving and disseminating the cultural legacy passed down to them by their elders.

All the pieces presented, both musical and dance, were selected after an intense work of ethnographic field collection through the Galician geography, faithfully maintaining the characteristics of their interpretation. The performance is completed with different costumes according to it.

Although it is a very new association, the illusion and dedication of its members achieved the objective of promoting and spreading our folklore in many places through the participation in many Folkloric Festivals, not only in Galicia, but also in other communities and countries, such as France, Portugal or Switzerland.

In addition, the multiple interventions on television and collaborations with groups such as Berrogüetto, Milladoiro, Quempallou, Pablo Seoane Grupo, Tic Tac de Pablo Díaz, performances in all Galician provinces and dozens of awards in the competitions through which they passed, prove the worth of the association.

In 2002 the album Cantos vellos para rapaces novos was recorded in collaboration with A. C. Santa María de Torás, with which the selected pieces reached a wider diffusion. In 2007 a second recording was presented, this time solo, Dálle Donaire ao corpo, elaborated in Mans Studios and with the collaboration of the Diputación Provincial and the Fundación Paideia. In 2011, the DVD Dez anos con Donaire was presented, which includes the gala of the X Anniversary of the association in the emblematic Teatro Rosalía de Castro in A Coruña.
